FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before your first visit. If your question isn't here, email abbie@awtherapies.com.

Your first visit

What happens at my first appointment?

Abbie starts with a short consultation about your health, lifestyle and what you'd like from the session. Then you settle in for the treatment. Allow a few extra minutes for this the first time.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable and preferably loose fitting.

How long does a treatment last?

Treatments last from 30 minutes for a taster reflexology session up to 90 minutes for some of our reflexology packages and pregnancy treatments. Your first visit includes a few extra minutes for a short consultation.

How often should I have a treatment?

That's up to you. Some clients come weekly or fortnightly for a few sessions and then monthly, while others book whenever they need time out. Abbie can suggest a rhythm after your first visit.

Should I eat before a treatment?

Try to avoid a heavy meal or alcohol just before your appointment. A light snack is fine.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most people feel calm and a little sleepy. Drink some water, take it easy for the rest of the day if you can, and avoid booking anything rushed straight afterwards.

About reflexology

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that applies gentle pressure to points on the feet that are thought to correspond to different parts of the body. Its main aim is deep relaxation and bringing you a sense of balance.

Is Abbie qualified?

Yes. Abbie is a qualified complementary therapist, massage therapist and reflexologist, with additional training in women’s health reflexology from the Reflexology Academy London. She’s a proud member of the Association of Reflexologists (AOR), the UK's largest professional body for reflexology, and is fully insured.

Pregnancy

When can I have a pregnancy massage?

Pregnancy massage is suitable from 14 weeks in a healthy pregnancy. Please check with your midwife first if your pregnancy is considered higher risk.

Is reflexology safe in pregnancy?

Reflexology is generally considered suitable during pregnancy when given by a qualified practitioner. Abbie will ask about your pregnancy first and may suggest one of our pregnancy treatments instead, depending on your stage.
